Recognizing the growing need for fractional staffing in today's austere funding environment, fraction was founded in 2025 to provide agile expertise to mission-driven organizations.
Our Model
True to it's name, fraction collaborates with a network of scientists and professionals on a fractional basis, assembling the specific skills and expertise needed for each project contract. This flexible team model allows us to build responsive, client-centered solutions while keeping costs down.
Our Founder
fraction's Founder and Principal, Abigail Whittaker, has worked across the agricultural, environmental and development sectors for 15 years, and led high-performing teams and programs. She has managed complex projects with government agencies and NGOs, including the U.S. Forest Service and The Nature Conservancy. Her work in the conservation sector has contributed to the protection of over 65,000 acres in the American West and more than $10 million raised for socially beneficial projects.
Abigail's passion is serving the underserved, whether addressing rural poverty in the Global North or supporting pastoralists coping with the impacts of climate change in the Global South. Through fraction, she is honored to work with mission-driven organizations addressing societal and planetary challenges, and brings deep care and commitment to advancing their impact.
Our Track Record
“I was impressed with Abigail’s ability to organize the work, manage our team and contribute quality scientific ideas and technical information to the project. She quickly became a leader in our partnership and expertly presented our research. She met all deadlines despite the many internal and external challenges we faced during a complex project, and contributed greatly to our success.”
- Mark Metcalfe, PhD, Region 5 Economist, U.S. Forest Service
“Abigail is incredibly bright, organized, practical, creates trust, a problem-solver who moves projects forward, and has the unique ability to bring diverse people together to find answers and craft solutions.”
